One of these powerful tools is Sound Therapy. Let's talk about how you can use the power of Sound Therapy to cure fear.

Sound Therapy is a powerful set of tools for overcoming fear. There are numerous types of Sound Therapy commonly used in the treatment of fears and phobias. Here are 5 powerful types:

Sound Medicine is a vibrational healing tool. Practitioners believe that everything has an innate geometrical form and that you can use differing pitches of sound to properly align the geometry of your cells and eliminate fears and discomfort.

Music can lift your mood and stimulate positive emotions. Popular or classical, guitar, flute, harp, whatever genre and instruments make you feel better become a simple form of Sound Therapy.

Solfeggio Frequencies are specific sound frequencies that the ancients believed provide spiritual blessings. The Miracles of Color Therapy

Author: Phillip Scott

While most of us turn to modern medicine for answers to painful questions regarding illness, health and personal wellness, there are some of us who tend to look toward nature for long-term sustainable solutions that occasionally seem more logical and easy to implement.

The ancient science and art of color therapy is one of several approaches to good health and is rapidly being recognized globally as a predominantly potent form of alternative medicine.

What is Color Therapy

Color Therapy or chromotherapy is the ancient science and art of using the power of colors for restorative health and personal well-being. The ancient Egyptians believed that one of their gods, Thoth, was the divine originator of the method of healing with natural colors. Both the ancient Indians and the Greeks also used color to treat the weak and the infirm. Their premise was based on the hypothesis that since the human body contained fluids of different colors such as bile (yellow), blood (red) and phlegm (white), colors control the human disposition. Modern science including behavioral science recognizes that colors can have a long-lasting impression on our moods and many colors have a calming effect on us. Color therapy involves identifying the source of the ailment and treating it with the color associated with the ailment. Since color therapy is totally non-invasive, it is easy to administer and never has any side effects.

How is Color Therapy Administered?

There are essentially three ways in which color therapy is administered. Many color therapy experts use a combination of these modalities and often recommend the use of specific products known for their potent color-based healing properties.

Spot Therapy

In this approach, a specific color is applied to a part of the body either through direct touch or through colored light. Regular treatment cycles are set up and the patient’s progress is monitored regularly.

Chakra Color Therapy

The ancient science of Indian medicine called Ayurveda believes that there are specific energy points in our bodies called Chakras, which have a deep association with our health and wellness. The Chakra associated with the malady is pin pointed and the appropriate color is administered in one of several ways to the location of the Chakra. This can include direct exposure to specific colored products, which may have additional therapeutic qualities, exposure to colored light, and the wearing of gemstones, which remain in constant touch with the human body.

Pyramid Color Therapy

In this form of color therapy, the power bestowed by Nature on the geometrical shapes of the Egyptian Pyramids is combined with the soothing and healing properties of colors to bring curative relief.

How Colour Therapy Works

Author: Trevor Mayes

Our Reaction to Colour - The Endocrine System.Colour affects us physically and psychologically, directly and indirectly and from a combined psychological, physiological, and spiritual perspective. From both the psychological and physiological perspective colour affects us directly when it enters the eye and is transmitted to the emotional centre of the brain the hypothalamus that in turn affects the pituitary gland the gland that controls the entire endocrine system the network of glands including pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal gland, pancreas, ovaries, and testes.

The thymus gland, pineal gland, and kidney are sometimes considered endocrine organs. They all release hormones into our bodies, hormones are protein messengers that help cells talk to each other. The endocrine system can affect moods and could account for Seasonal Affective disorder or S.A.D, it also affects sex drive, energy levels, and weight gain to name a few.

We are indirectly affected by colour as it can penetrate our bodies so that even blind people can benefit from colour therapy. This means that clothing, bed clothing, and diet can affect us the same way as the colours we actually see. It is commonly known that sunlight also has the effect of synthesising vitamin D through ultra violet radiation acting on the skin. However, photosensitive people can react to sunlight and develop a skin rash, but sunlight can be used to treat other skin conditions such as psoriasis.

The existence and purpose of the pineal gland has been a matter of long standing scientific debate. Recent scientific evidence shows that it is another master gland in addition to the pituitary, which acts as the body's light meter receiving light activated information from the hypothalamus. Its activity is activated by light changes and the earth's magnetic field and is part of our biological body clock that adjusts to varying lengths of daylight.

It is now recognised as the regulator of regulators controlling sexual function, growth, and aging, body temperature, blood

pressure, motor activity, sleep by the production of melatonin, tumour growth, and mood. The pineal gland has long been associated with spirituality and described as the third eye through which information to the body's energy centres are passed. When we get an imbalance of coloured light all the above bodily functions and our daily rhythms can be is thrown out of synchronisation with our needs to maintain our mental and physical health.

Warm and Magnetic Colours

Colour is sometimes referred to in terms of temperature, the red longer wavelengths colours are referred to as warm or magnetic colours while the shorter wavelengths towards to blue end on the spectrum are cool or electric colours. From the hottest red which has a lowest and slowest frequency but the most powerful penetrating affect, to orange and then yellow are generally taken to be the three main magnetic colours.

These colours are masculine and linked to action as they supply us with basic life force energies for action, they are warm, stimulating and energising, they are connected to the awareness of self and self-expression, physical and survival instincts, creativity and the mental processes. They are grounding colours that link us to the earth and discharge negativity from our system.

Complimentary Colours

Complimentary colours are colours that are directly across from each other on the colour wheel. They are called "complementary" because, when used together, they become extremely vibrant and have heavy contrast. Complimentary colours are useful when you want to make something stand out, for example, if you use a green background and have a red circle on it, the red will jump off the page and be almost blinding. In colour therapy, complementary colours reinforce each other and can be used in specific rations such as 755 red and 25% of its complimentary colour green.

The Aura

An aura is an envelope of vital energy, which radiates from everything in nature including minerals, plants, animals and humans. The aura is not visible to normal vision, but may be seen by using clairvoyance and specialized photographic equipment. The aura is often described as a multi coloured mist that has an assortment of boundaries and properties and binds our physical bodies to our spirituality; it is not in anyway separate from our physical body but they combine as one unit that makes up the whole person. The aura acts as a prism to divide white light into its component colours that are sent to different coloured layers around our bodies. These auric layers correspond to chakras or energy centres which in turn relate to major organs in our bodies. The aura is the way in which these chakras are energised and are the means by which we communicate with our aura and vice-versa.

This means we need a balance of all the colours in white light to remain healthy, an imbalance can affect our psychological well-being and cause physical illness; it is the task of the colour therapist to correct any imbalance present in the auric layers.

The Seven Main Chakras of the Spiritual Body and Their Respective Colours

Violet - Crown

Indigo - Brow

Blue - Throat

Green - Heart

Yellow - Solar Plexus

Orange - Sacral

Red - Root or Base

Does Music Help Children?

Author: Shine Music

Why is Music Important for Kids?

This question has been debated for as long as time has existed. Even the great Greek and Roman philosophers approached the question: is music something that should be taught and does it help the development of children?

Plato answered "I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly music, for in the patterns of music and all arts are the keys to learning." And again “what then is the education to be? Perhaps we could hardly find a better than that which the experience of the past has already discovered, which consists, I believe, in gymnastic, for the body, and music for the mind.”

In all cultures of the world music plays an important role. While these roles may change depending on the culture it is impossible to separate music from the life of an individual. While some may argue the role of music in our lives it is impossible to escape it. Even in the popular culture of Australia it is impossible to go shopping without hearing music. Music provides a means of communication and expression of culture and individual identity.

Children are immersed in music from birth and will be for their entire life. If this is the case why teach it? Is not the constant immersion in music enough? To this I say; is the fact that we witness the results of scientific principals on a day to day basis result in the understanding of those scientific principles? No it does not and likewise for music it does not either. The day to day encounters we have with music can move us but the understanding of this music can help us grow as individuals.

In many cultures the family plays the main role in music education. Families are most commonly the ones that teach children the music of their culture. As young children, we are commonly sung nursery rhymes. These provide entertainment for the child and often information in small repeated fashion. Children learn through the repetition and structure that the information was delivered in. many nursery rhymes teach fundamental life lesson and therefore sets music up as a means of educating. Children learn from music from a young age and will continue to for the rest of their lives. In a world where globalization and consumerism are dominating cultural identities are drifting into the background and children are more likely to be sung pop songs as lullaby’s than nursery rhymes. The benefit of nursery rhymes and progressive learning has become an issue. Children are missing out on fundamental learning opportunities.

The Mozart effect which gained a large following in the 1990’s claimed that listening to Mozart as a baby will make a child smarter. While this movement was short lived and there is little proof that it works there has been no denying that children who learn music will achieve higher in other aspects of their academic life. In earning music children learn to express their identities, gain confidence and develop sense of time and space. A research team at the university of Munster in Germany discovered that students who study music have more developed abstract reasoning skills which are closely linked to learning in the areas of science and maths.

I do not believe that there is any argument to this question…music is a vital part of a child’s education and should be taken seriously. Listening to music is not enough! A child must learn to think musically and that is what will help assist the development of the child and their academic development.

Getting A Good Nights Sleep

Author: Sarah Reddingworth
Do you need to get a good nights sleep when you go bed? Is insomnia plaguing you? Read this article and get back into the rhythm of a good nights sleep in bed. This article will help you accomplish that! Join me as we focus on a good nights sleep. Sleep is an essential factor.

Some can sleep in bed for 4 hours a night, others need a minimum of 8 hours, and sometimes we need more, especially to recover. With bad sleeping patterns, insomnia, etc, it really can affect our daytime life. So getting the right balance is essential. There can be a number of reasons why there is a problem in this area. If it is insomnia, then it generally is that we take our daytime problems to bed. We try to sleep while our minds are rushing around the problems in life. This is a major cause of insomnia. Ever tried sleeping the night before an interview or exam? We could be up till 4am, trying to sleep! We could try to figure out solutions we don't even know the questions to. Our mouths might get dry, and we get up to drink water 10 times in one night, rustling in bed and all that! The first step is to leave those thoughts out of your bed. Your bed is for sleeping in. So leave the problems. If you can't then a good idea is to say mind - deal with this or God - deal with this and leave it at that. If that doesn't work, then imagine a light bulb in your mind, and mentally switch off the lights, then have a good nights sleep. Your bed may also be an issue, if your mattress is old. Try turning the mattress over to even out and balance the springs or coils. Also consider buying a new bed or mattress. This is a great way to get major comfort. Memory foam mattresses are great if you have back problems. If you have a partner in bed and it is a small bed, consider getting a king size! This can be a great way to give you more room. Another solution is hypnosis. There are a lot of courses on CD that can help with insomnia. Play it back and it can have a major effect to program you to sleep peacefully. Another option is to look at your eating habits. Eating just before sleeping is not a great idea, however nor is an empty stomach. If you find yourself getting up at night for a snack, this is not a bad thing. I for example need to have something in my belly. Having something light before sleeping is a great idea, especially if like me, you just can't sleep on an empty stomach. Bananas are a great idea as it is very light, and gives you potassium which is good for the brain. Another solution is meditation, which works so well. Select the time you want to sleep, and half an hour before sit in a chair, in quietness, quiet the mind, and focus on silence. Make your mind be like still water, and if you can do this you will find that your brainwaves calm down which makes you feel tired, at which time get into bed and have a great blissful sleep. Then it becomes beauty sleep!About the Author:

What's Unhealthy For Good Health?

Author: Knight Pierce Hirst

According to an August 2009 announcement by the American Heart Association, sugar – including high fructose corn syrup – is bad for the heart. Women should have no more than 100 calories daily from sugar that’s added to foods and drinks. Men should have no more than 150 of these calories daily.

Unfortunately, the average American consumes 375 calories from added sugar daily. In fact, about half the increase in calories in the past 30 years comes from beverages. Twelve ounces of regular cola have about 130 calories of sugar. Is seems Americans aren’t drinking to their health.

According to a study in the journal “Neurology”, people as young as 45 who have high diastolic blood pressure are more likely to have problems with memory. The diastolic number is the bottom number on a blood pressure reading. Blood pressure readings of 140/90 or above are considered high and every 10-point increase in the diastolic number increases the likelihood of memory problems 7%. Thus it’s thought preventing or treating high blood pressure could help prevent memory loss. Considering 1 out of 3 Americans have high blood pressure, 1 out of 3 could have difficulty remembering this.

According to a study published in the journal “Social Science & Medicine”, worry about losing a job is worse for peoples’ health than not having a job. In fact, chronic job insecurity was a stronger predictor of poor health than smoking or hypertension. It’s not just the loss of income that causes this stress; it’s also the loss of health insurance, retirement benefits and peace of mind. Previous research has shown that stress leads to a range of poor health conditions that can shorten life. Of course, other research has shown that job security in a stressful job can shorten life too.

According to Dr. Martin Wiseman of the American Institute for Cancer Research/World Cancer Research Fund, nearly 40% of breast cancer in the U.S. could be prevented. The report, which reviewed 81 new studies on the links between lifestyle and cancer, showed that 70,000 cases of breast cancer could be prevented a year if women maintained a healthy weight, drank only 1 alcoholic drink a day, exercised at least 30 minutes a day and breastfed their babies. Breast cancer kills 400,000 women worldwide every year, with 40,000 dying in the U.S. While the government struggles with health care, women can help care for their own health.

Music Therapy

Author: Sharron Myers

Music, they say, soothes the savage beast and this is so true when we consider how music in its magical way works on our body rhythms bring harmony, literally, back into the body.

A story is told in the Bible of a King named Saul, who had an evil spirit that would torment him and make him feel terrible. It was suggested that they find someone who could play he harp and then the evil spirit would leave and King Saul would feel better. So they searched and found a young shepherd boy named David and he was commissioned to play for Saul whenever the evil spirit came upon him.

Researchers have found that certain types of music are more uplifting to the soul than others. Although you may think that a way to relax would be to listen to your favorite rock band, you are sadly mistaken. This will only rev up your engines and make you more stressed than when you started out. No, the way to personal harmony must come from a very specific kind of music. Not all music relaxes, you must personally feel more relaxed, your breathing must become slower and deeper for music to have a relaxing effect on you.

Whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would take his harp and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him. 1 Samuel 16:23(KJV)

According to composer and music researcher Stephen Halpern Ph.D., "Music is not all that meets the ear. If you were to have earplugs in your ears, you cold still 'feel the music'" he explains. "That's because music is vibrations. And these vibrations affect your heartbeat, blood flow, brain waves - your entire body chemistry.

So it is by our body responses that we can tell if music is truly relaxing us or not.

In order to truly enjoy the music it is best if you can get yourself focused on it by either sitting still or lying down and really soak it in.

I realize that there are times when you just can't do this and just listening while going about your work is better than nothing, but it will not have the same effect as actually absorbing yourself in it.

I personally love to just run a hot bath with my favorite aroma, lavender. Then I light candles around the bathroom and turn off all of the lights. This is my special time when I can relax and toss away the cares of the day. In the living room, right next to the bathroom, I have beautiful classical or new age music playing softly. As it permeates the room, mixed with the scent of my bath and candles, I am in another world, totally relaxed without a care in the world.

Music, in my view, is the most influential and powerful therapy that you can provide yourself. It not only affects your soul, but your body and spirit as well.

Colour Therapy and Candle Therapy

Author: Trevor Mayes

Using candles as therapy has been around for thousands of years, and has been practiced by nearly every religion from the ancient Egyptians to the present day.

The candle flame provides a focus and candle therapy can be used to unite the powers of mind, body, and spirit. Candles have lit our way through many millennia not only as the only source of light but also symbolically as the flame of life in celebrations and ceremonies, proclamations and processions. Candle light creates an almost hypnotic and tranquil atmosphere that allows the mind to drift off into a very special place or retreat from the pressures of every day life.

A candle acts as a reflection of our selves as we would like to be and helps us plan how we can bring about positive change to make our dreams come true. On a spiritual level, the candle reflects the spiritual changes we would like to bring about in ourselves. The candle flame acts as a reminder and a symbol of our burning desires. Sometimes we have to allow our subconscious to take over and allow a force more powerful than we are to give us guidance. Simply lighting a candle of a particular colour or essential oil will assist in other therapy methods such as colour breathing and visualisation.

Candle therapy is important in colour therapy and to assist in meditation as it is the vibration of the flame that helps put you in touch with our spiritual or higher self. The colour of the candle and the aroma of scented candles is a way of including the colours you need to correct any imbalance in your aura or chakras. However, you do not need to light them as simply having them as a decoration to look at with also assist in the colour therapy healing process. You should never blow out a candle as folklore has it that it will offend the fire element and the spirits, candles should be extinguished using a snuffer or by dunking in the molten wax.

Healthy Baby, Happy Mother -- Prenatal Chocolates

Author: Gerald Fitz

Many pregnant women get intense cravings, and studies show that the number one craving is for chocolate. You might be avoiding chocolate because it is “bad for you” or “bad for the baby.” However, chocolate is actually proving to have unexpected health benefits, and these benefits may be doubly important for pregnant women and the development of healthy babies.

We know that chocolate makes us naturally happier. It releases endorphins which act to dull pain and just make us generally feel better. It also stimulates the brain and body. Recent research has found that chocolate can also have positive effects on the fetus. The infants whose mothers ate chocolate regularly throughout pregnancy were found more inclined to smiling, laughter, and were more easily soothed. Strangely enough, it seems that chocolate can make both you and your baby happier.

Chocolate also has several health benefits when taken wisely. Chocolate, especially dark, is full of powerful antioxidants that protect against cell damage. This can be important especially when your body is under the stress of pregnancy. It can also help against fatigue and be preventative against future diseases. When you are pregnant you are more prone to exhaustion as your body supports the development of another person.

Gestational hypertension can happen because of the increased blood volume during pregnancy. Theobromine is a natural substance found in chocolate that fights against fatigue by stimulating the heart. It also increases circulation in the placenta to aid in fetal development. Magnesium is another element in chocolate that is important during pregnancy in the development of the fetus’ brain. Since chocolate has many good substances in it, it may be that when you are craving chocolate you are in fact craving something your body needs.

Obviously chocolate alone is not enough to give you all the vitamins you need during pregnancy. It would be impossible for you to get all you need in your diet alone, and that is why prenatal vitamins are so important. The prenatal vitamin and chocolate have actually now been combined so you have a good tasting prenatal chocolate. These are great because they have been specifically designed for health conscious women during their pregnancy. Taking a chocolate vitamin can allow you to give in to your craving while at the same time monitoring how much chocolate you eat. It is the perfect solution for someone who needs to take a daily vitamin anyway. There are also other “healthy” chocolates you can invest in such as dark chocolate or sugar free, or chocolates to boost energy, creating more ways to ease cravings without having to feel guilty after.

Chocolate has many benefits, but anything in excess is bad for you. Regular chocolate is high in sugar and not good for you in disproportionate amounts. Make smart choices about your chocolates, make sure you are moderate in your intake, and make sure you are taking care of yourself and keeping yourself healthy and then you can let loose and give in to some of those cravings.

Usefull Things For Creating an Spa Place

Author: A Nutt

As many people who have had the experience will tell you, there are simply not many things that are more relaxing than a spa. In this stress-filled world, sometimes a person really needs to relax for them to be able to handle the day that's ahead of them. With things like work, school, and other activities, they can sometimes seem as if they are a little too much for us to handle. Unfortunately, especially with current economic climates, not everyone has the luxury of going to the spa for the weekend.

Luckily, there is the opportunity of creating the spa experience at the spa place. This is a cost-effective solution for those who want to reduce some stress and also feel the added comfort of kicking back at spa place! There are a few things that a person will need to create this experience, and they're pretty cheap, so one would not have to spend much to make their spa comparable to the expensive romps.

Equipment

Firstly, you're going to obviously want to acquire the items that you need to create this magical experience. The typical spa revolves around the body, face, and hair, so make sure that you keep these things in mind while you're running to the store. Although there are many items that the spa uses, here are a few basics:

- Anti-oxidant toners, cleansers, and moisturizers

- Your favorite loofah

- Bath Brush (preferably the ones with the long handles)

- Bath Salts

- Spring Water (preferably with lemon)

- Essential Oils

Usage

All of these things play a vital role in creating your spa experience at spa place, as these are the basic things (more or less) that they use in the traditional spa. The key to really making this magic is to use the body scrubs to remove all of the toxins from the body, while stimulating the skin. Use the essential oils in the spring water for the best effect, and make sure to gently, yet thoroughly, cleanse the body with the loofah. The bath salts can also be added to the solution for the cooling effect.

Facial Rejuvenation

This is probably one of the biggest things in the spa, as everyone wants to leave the spa with that radiant glow, which are essentially the same reasons why celebrities stay a week at the professional spas. One of the noteworthy things to stay here is that everyone should remember that the skin on the face is some of the most delicate on the body. It is advisable that a person does not use any harsh soaps or cleansing agents here, and be sure to be gentle!

The Spa Treatment

Using these ingredients to make a spa treatment at spa place is something that more and more people are finding to be a really good alternative than shelling out a lot of money. The person who tries this will be someone who feels relaxed and ready to take on the next day, almost with a new lease on life!

Dealing with the Swine Flu Threat During Pregnancy

Author: Nisha Obaidullah

It's officially a pandemic and honestly, I'm a little scared. River is only 8 months old and in babies and pregnant women, swine flu can be very serious. The pandemic has taken 29 lives in the UK so far, (with the majority of these cases seeing underlying health issues), including a pregnant woman, a baby and children.

A report in US News, "Dealing with the Swine Flu Threat During Pregnancy" brought up some salient points which every pregnant woman needs to know about.

Firstly, pregnant women and children have been advised to get the H1N1 vaccination when it comes out in the next month or so, but the question is should pregnant women and children be one of the first or last to receive this vaccination? The vaccination is so new that this would effectively be a mass drugs trial to which we do not definitely know the outcome. "Just today, public health experts said that there's no way to know if any rare side effects will occur in the new vaccine until millions of people are vaccinated. Those unknowns would make an expectant mom especially nervous." Deborah Kotz, US News

Secondly, flu vaccinations contain thimerosal, a mercury-containing preservative that was banished from other childhood vaccines several years ago but is still used in most flu vaccines.

Studies on mercury have shown that this element passes into the brain and remains there. Mercury can have profound effects on a developping fetus, which is why pregnant women are advised not to eat shellfish, tuna, shark, mackerel, king and tilefish. (A good pregnancy diet and exercise should take this into account, so if you are following a specific pregnancy fitness program, you should be safe.)

There are thimerosal-free versions of the vaccine available but you may struggle to find a doctor who stocks this.

"John Iskander, the previous head of immunization safety at the CDC, told me last fall that the reason the agency doesn't recommend thimerosal-free vaccines is because "there's still not enough women receiving the flu vaccine, and we don't want to throw up another barrier in the vaccination process." " Deborah Kotz, US News

Lastly, pregnant women who have been exposed to someone who has the virus should get the antiviral drug Tamiflu. This advice does not apply to non-pregnant women (or men in fact!).

The best thing you can do to make sure you stay healthy and fit during pregnancy is take proper precautions. Always wash your hands after being in a public place and it's worth carrying a bottle of hand sanitizer in your handbag for occasions when you are out and there's no access to a washbasin. Make sure your children have good hand hygeine too.

If you are pregnant and you do have symptoms, contact your GP straight away. Stay hydrated and stock up on nutrient dense foods.

The Many facts of Hair Loss

Author: Megan

Hair loss is a normal part of life for everyone - as long as it stays normal, gradual hair loss. What about those times when we experience abnormal hair loss or more permanent hair loss?

Normal Hair Loss

Normally, about 90% of your hair is growing and 10% is "resting." The resting hair sits for 2-3 months and then falls out and starts bringing in new growth. This is why you can usually pull a few strands out of your head in the shower every day - it's the hair that's leaving to make room for new growth.

Abnormal Hair Loss

There is some abnormal hair loss that is, technically, normal. For example, many women experience hair loss about three months after giving birth. This is normal because the heightened hormone levels produced by pregnancy cause some hair to continue growing even if it wouldn't otherwise. When those hormone levels return to normal, that hair falls out and returns to its normal cycle. Some people also experience major hair loss after surgery or illness. While this may not be completely normal hair loss, the fact that the body loses hair after experiencing stress is normal.

On the other hand, strange hair loss can also be a sign of something more serious. Hormone problems like overactive thyroid glands, or imbalanced androgen or estrogen levels can cause excessive hair loss. Some children lose hair because of fungal infections of the scalp. Hair loss can even occur as an early sign of diabetes or because of a reaction to a certain medicine.

Some hair loss can actually occur because of bad hair care. Wearing hair in really tight hair styles (tight braids, cornrows) or using lots of chemicals (perms, hot oil treatments) can cause hair loss that can actually become permanent if it persists. Hair follicles can actually scar and stop growing hair there at all. (Just another reason to be kind to your hair.)

Male- and Female-Pattern Baldness

What about normal, more permanent hair loss? Unlike some of the abnormal causes of baldness, permanent-pattern baldness is luck of the draw - if you get the genes for it, you're pretty much sunk (with a few possible exceptions that we'll get to in a minute). This kind of baldness usually starts in the front (receding hair line) or at the top of the head, either in a bald spot or as all-over thinning. Although female-pattern baldness is less common, it does occur, usually as a general thinning rather than as a receding hairline.

There are a couple of possible methods of treating baldness. For men, there is a presciption option called finasteride, or more commonly, Propecia. Most people try the non-prescription drug minoxidil, which is usually sold as rogaine 3 month supply. This is effective for about 80% of those with male-pattern baldness, but it takes at least 2-4 months to know for sure whether or not it will work. Typically, Rogaine is most effective for bald spots at the top/back of the head and is less effective for receding hair lines. Rogaine for women can also be effective for general thinning, but it may take even longer than Men's Rogaine to be able to tell whether it is going to help.

For the more normal kinds of hair loss, your only worry is that you'll have to keep it all off the bathroom floor. If you have abnormal hair loss, it's probably a good idea to check with your doctor to make sure it isn't hair loss fraught with portent. If it's permanent-pattern baldness, good luck. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones who doesn't care or for whom Rogaine works.

Tips for Faster Hair Growth

Author: Gloria Smith

Every one of us wants to have great looking and healthy hair all the time. We make sure to take good care of it because as we near the golden years, we are bound to experience some form of hair loss problems especially if this issue runs in the family. We sigh or even cringe at the thought of this.

But this should not bother us at all if we know the ways to maintain the health of our hair. In fact, we can even supercharge the growth of our hair if we only follow some tried and tested techniques. You may be surprised to hear about this but yes, there is such a thing as growing hair the faster way.

Get the right nutrients. The condition of our hair depends mainly on the nutrients that our body gets from the food we eat. We’ve been told time and again by our parents and teachers that eating a balanced diet is key to a healthy body and this only follows that having a healthy body leads to healthy hair.

The best solution then is to eat right to get the required daily nutrients. For the hair, the essential vitamins and minerals we need are vitamins A, B complex and E as well as calcium, iodine, iron, magnesium, potassium, manganese, sulfur and zinc.

Take vitamin supplements. We all need supplements to help us get through the day and boost our immune system. Multivitamin supplements that contain vitamins A, B complex, E, C and minerals such as iodine, iron, potassium and zinc are vital for hair growth. Vitamins can promote hair growth.

Get a regular trim. You may not know this but trimming your hair at least an inch or half an inch every six to eight weeks can help speed up its growth. Try it and you’ll see the results. You may have noticed how slow the hair grows if you don’t cut it for several months, right?

Use mild shampoos. Stay away from very strong shampoos and conditioners, if possible. Use local products that are manufactured specifically for your country’s needs. Sometimes many of us would rather go for the imported and branded products which may not be suitable for our type of hair. What you should do is to pick mild products that fit the type of your hair.

Be nice to your hair. Use a brush with soft bristles to prevent hair fall. If you have long hair, make sure to use a wide-toothed comb first after taking a bath to detangle the hair. Be gentle when brushing your hair to massage your scalp and promote healthy hair growth. For women, it’s also best to avoid making very tight ponytails or using very tight hair clips as these can lead to hair fall.

Lead a healthy lifestyle. In other words, avoid vices such as smoking, drinking alcohol and staying up late often. Don’t let stress get the better of you. Instead, get eight hours of sleep every day, eat right, get some exercise and drink plenty of water, if possible the regular eight glasses a day.

A Quick Introduction To Prenatal Yoga

Author: Patrick Attlee

Yoga is an ancient Indian practice dating back five thousand years. The word itself comes from the ancient Sanskrit word for "union".The benefits of regular yoga practice are many. Chief benefits include relaxation, normalization of body weight, improved balance, improved flexibility and muscle tone and increased energy.

People often ask if yoga is appropriate during pregnancy. As long as simple precautions and common sense are followed, prenatal yoga is a fantastic way of staying fit during your pregnancy and will help prepare you for labor.

Without doubt the most important thing to remember when performing yoga poses is to breathe. Few us breathe properly today, we are very uptight and constricted as a rule and tend to breathe from our chests. If you look at a sleeping baby, you will see her tummy rise and fall - this is where we have forgotten to breathe from. Yoga breathing fixes this, thereby relieving tension and ensuring that oxygen rich blood is circulating in your body which is obviously very beneficial for your baby. Yoga breathing can also make your labor much more manageable. When my wife was recently giving birth to our daughter, yoga breathing techniques were central to her strategy. She gave birth without any drugs, gas or air.

As with any physical exercise, you need to take general precautions when you are pregnant. It is recommended not to perform any postures that require you to lie on your back for longer than a few minutes, especially after the first trimester. Unless you are accustomed to inversion postures, you should not practice them while pregnant. Deep forward or back bends may also not be appropriate, as they may put too much strain on the abdominal muscles. As with everything associated with pregnancy, listen to your body at all times and do not push yourself. You should finish a yoga session in a state of deep relaxation, not heading for the freezer to get an ice pack!

As your body changes in each trimester, you will want to adapt your yoga practice accordingly. In the first trimester, it will likely be possible to perform poses that involve deeper stretching. Standing postures are very beneficial as they will strengthen your legs and improve your circulation. Spine twisting postures may also be practiced. In the second and third trimesters you may want to look ato postures that will help open your hips, for example, Triangle Posture. At this point you should take with your back and forward bends. The key is at all times to listen to your body and work with your breath. Once your breathing is out of control while in a posture you are not receiving any benefits. Back off until your breath returns to normal. Yoga is not about how deep you go, someone in the full expression of the posture will be getting just the same benefits as someone who is only in the first 5 percent of a pose but is working up to their limit.

There are lots of resources that can help you embark on a safe prenatal yoga program from DVDs to books to online articles. With their help you can find a practice that is right for you and your baby.

Treat Your Hair Naturally

Author: Redmund

Is your hair getting thin? If it is, then you may be experiencing hair loss. You have to consider the fact that hair loss is a natural thing. People have been fighting it for quite a long time now and up until today modern research facilities are still looking for ways to treat hair loss.

It has been found that there are quite a lot of ways to treat hair loss. However, if you don't want to go through hair transplant treatment or you don't want to use synthetic medication and creams to treat hair loss, then you may want to go for natural hair loss treatment.

Hair loss is a problem that both men and women of all ages face. It does not discriminate and is not entirely random. It can be caused by many different things including age, diet, heredity, and stress. So is there hope of finding a natural treatment for your hair loss? The simple answer is yes there is.

These two questions are tightly woven together. The key is to stop the hairs from falling and then to establish a strategy to grow that hair back. How do you do this? Well in most people, hair loss can be associated to either a vitamin/mineral deficiency or an accumulation of DHT. These two are also related so by treating one of them you in effect can also treat the other.

The great thing about natural treatment for hair loss is that it is mainly composed of natural ingredients. Unlike synthetic hair loss treatment products, natural treatments don't have any known harmful side effects.

First of all, you need to remember that hair is a non living tissue in the human body. It is mainly composed of keratin which is a fibrous protein. Now when keratin builds up in the scalp, it will sprout the thing that we call hair.

In order to keep the hair healthy, you need to know that it should be properly nourished. For this to happen, the blood flowing in the scalp should be nutrient rich.

You also need to remember that there are quite a lot of factors that can cause hair loss. It can be caused by emotional stress, diseases, environmental factors, hormonal changes, thyroid gland functions, immune system disorders, ad it can also be caused by medication as well as your genes.

Now, in order for you to treat hair loss, you will see that the proper nutrition and the right kinds of herbs will be able to provide nourishment to your hair follicles which can revive it and start growing hair again. There are quite a lot of herbs that can prevent and also help treat hair loss. It will include sesame, aloe vera, saw palmetto, green tea, and horsetail.

Some herbs can be eaten or can be taken as a drink, while there are also other herbs that you can use externally. Try using aloe vera as a hair rinse. Not only that this will keep your scalp healthy, but will also stimulate your hair follicles to grow hair.

Another natural treatment is aromatherapy. It has been found that the oils used in aromatherapy will be able to stimulate your hair follicles and encourage growth. Not only that, you need to remember that aromatherapy can help you get rid of stress, which is also one of the main causes of hair loss.

Stress could also be the state of physical or mental tension that results from a series of factors that tend to alter an existent equilibrium.
Stress is an everyday fact of life and it can be harmful if this lasts for so long and there is no relief. The pressures of crises and everyday events have adverse effects on the health of a person. Women take on the stresses of home and the work environment. In the presence of stress, a woman can manifest certain conditions like headaches, ulcer, diabetes, and certain types of cancer.
