Your body benefits from the lighter fresher fare and there’s no extra heat from cooking in your kitchen. They’re perfect for easy casual entertaining or a quick hot weather stand-by.

Lose weight – head for the salads

Salads are ideal if you’re trying to lose weight. With their high fibre and water content, you can fill up with a huge plate and yet have eaten only 420 kilojoules (100 calories).

You get a big volume for few kilojoules – something dietitians call a low "kilojoule density" – which is the opposite of most junk food.

When you eat out, it’s a good idea to order a salad as a first course. Research shows that you’ll feel fuller and are less likely to overindulge at that meal.

These days, chefs are right into the gourmet salad trends with offerings such as rocket, pear and walnut salad, or a Vietnamese salad strong in mint and coriander or even a parsley, red onion and pomegranate

Nutrition bonus

As you’d expect, salads add a health bonus to your nutritional intake as they are generally low in fat and kilojoules. They are rich in fibre and key vitamins including vitamin C, vitamin B1, B6 and folate (a B vitamin that can reduce the risk of birth defects) with smaller quantities of vitamins E and K.

There are plenty of essential minerals such as potassium (which helps counteract our high salt intake) and magnesium; and lesser quantities of zinc, calcium, iron and selenium.

Because most of the ingredients are eaten raw, heat-sensitive vitamins such as vitamin C, vitamin B1 and folate are not affected so it maximises the nutritional value over cooked vegetables.

And salads help you get those recommended 5 serves of vegetables and 2 serves of fruit each day.

The Rainbow Rule for antioxidants

Salads are a great way to ensure you get plenty of antioxidants – natural plant compounds that protect the body and slow the ageing process. For highest antioxidant value, use the "Rainbow Rule" and go for lots of colour, adding red tomatoes, bright carrots or capsicum, purple onion, fresh corn, beetroot and even fruit such as grapefruit or orange segments, melon or apples.

The pigments are usually antioxidants so “eating by the rainbow” maximises your intake.

With lettuces, the darker leaves are the best such as dark oak leaf, mignonette, purple radicchio, coral, baby spinach leaves or rocket. Fresh herbs are particularly rich in antioxidants so use basil, parsley, mint or coriander as often as you can.

A fast meal for hot days

When the temperature soars, a salad can quickly become a complete main meal by tossing in:

a can of tuna or salmon

cooked chicken pieces or cold lean meat strips

a can of three-bean mix or chick peas, drained

cheese like bocconcini, fetta, goats cheese or grated parmesan

hard boiled eggs

prawns

and serving with grainy bread rolls or toasted Turkish bread.

How to create a salad in 3 easy steps

To build a delicious and interesting salad:

Start off with a layer of lettuce. You can tear up a whole lettuce, or buy mixed leaves (mesclun) or a bag of washed and pre-packed leaves (check it’s fresh with no brown wilted leaves).

Add interest with any of these healthy ingredients:

tomatoes (vine-ripened, cherry, egg or yellow tear drop)

cucumber

capsicum

grated or thinly-sliced carrot

button mushrooms

snow peas or sugar snap peas

sprouts

steamed green beans, asparagus or cauliflower

chopped shallots or purple onions

char-grilled sweet potato, eggplant, zucchini or other vegetables

diced avocado

fresh herbs like coriander, mint or basil

Add protein from tuna, chicken, eggs or cold meats. Or barbecued chicken or lamb fillets sliced and served hot over the salad.

Just before serving, drizzle over the dressing.

Don’t skip the dressing

Salad dressings may not seem like much but they pack a powerful punch for good nutrition. And they make a salad taste so much better which means you enjoy it more!

There’s no need to buy no-oil dressings even if you’re watching your weight. Just a splash of oil with lemon juice is all you need, just enough to moisten the ingredients. Don’t drown the salad in it!

The small quantity of oil they provide – from extra-virgin olive oil, canola oil or walnut oil - is not heated. This means that salad dressing is the best way to consume those “healthy” unsaturated fats and vitamin E. The fat from the oil, the fat-soluble vitamins and antioxidants are bioavailable – which means that that they enable you to absorb a lot more nutrients such as beta-carotene, lutein and lycopene from raw foods.

The acidity of a dressing from lemon juice or vinegar is important too. It slows down the rate of digestion which leaves you feeling fuller for longer, a big help to dieters.

Easy vinaigrette

Make your own dressing, it’s quick and economical. Best of all, you get a quality oil and you don’t get the extra salt and additives from commercial salad dressings. Here’s how:

In a screw top jar, measure out:

3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

1 tablespoon lemon juice (or use white or red wine vinegar)

½ teaspoon Dijon mustard

plus a few grinds of black pepper.

Shake well until mixed, drizzle over your salad, toss and serve.
Makes enough for a salad for 4 or 6 people.

About the Author

She regularly provides healthy eating and nutrition advice for people looking for health insurance and health cover.

(ArticlesBase SC #1810262)

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ - Fresh Summer Salads

Vaibhavi Bhidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18432766324743773337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014465091671951716.post-51473693490668862942009-10-03T15:59:00.002+05:302009-10-03T16:13:17.952+05:30Beauty Tips For Women<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 257px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwXEMQInRwc5YfDGCC2J0ln1xtk42htk4lf7VdtCfPY96pxovVyv3iNK_t9uunKIyZdx5A39PCiZ_q08-fftG-SsnGqs4hvQR2cXkb6r9Z0e6L18H5LGkCQodAYICGctXyfo_KGGUJvlBd/s400/812692_84955702.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5388322421760218834" />
Author: beyli

Mainly of the working ladies do not get that quality time to spend on their face so for them my only suggestion is to be natural with a little bit of eye-shadow which can work wonder on your face. The ancient Egyptians believed that one of their gods, Thoth, was the divine originator of the method of healing with natural colors. Both the ancient Indians and the Greeks also used color to treat the weak and the infirm. Their premise was based on the hypothesis that since the human body contained fluids of different colors such as bile (yellow), blood (red) and phlegm (white), colors control the human disposition. Modern science including behavioral science recognizes that colors can have a long-lasting impression on our moods and many colors have a calming effect on us. Color therapy involves identifying the source of the ailment and treating it with the color associated with the ailment. Since color therapy is totally non-invasive, it is easy to administer and never has any side effects.

How is Color Therapy Administered?

There are essentially three ways in which color therapy is administered. Many color therapy experts use a combination of these modalities and often recommend the use of specific products known for their potent color-based healing properties.

Spot Therapy

In this approach, a specific color is applied to a part of the body either through direct touch or through colored light. Regular treatment cycles are set up and the patient’s progress is monitored regularly.

Chakra Color Therapy

The ancient science of Indian medicine called Ayurveda believes that there are specific energy points in our bodies called Chakras, which have a deep association with our health and wellness. The Chakra associated with the malady is pin pointed and the appropriate color is administered in one of several ways to the location of the Chakra. This can include direct exposure to specific colored products, which may have additional therapeutic qualities, exposure to colored light, and the wearing of gemstones, which remain in constant touch with the human body.

Pyramid Color Therapy

In this form of color therapy, the power bestowed by Nature on the geometrical shapes of the Egyptian Pyramids is combined with the soothing and healing properties of colors to bring curative relief.
About the Author:

Dr. Philip Scott is the CEO of Soul Journeys, an Internet company located in California, which markets a wide range of color therapy products for personal growth and wellness through its recently launched website http://colortherapyproducts.com. The company also provides its audience with many resources on alternative medicine, which are frequently updated. It's a delectable word. It makes you follow the aroma especially with the great tasting roasted coffee beans. Coffee is a popular drink at home, in the office, or just about anywhere.

Tastes may vary depending on how the drinker wants the brew of the coffee and the type of coffee beans. Most drinkers, who are so picky about the flavor of their coffee, would consider home coffee bean roasting. We may think of home coffee bean roasting as a complicated process, but it is not. In fact, it does not require a special machine or equipment and any tools to produce the same professional tasting roasted coffee. What is even marvelous about coffee bean roasting is that you could do that with your popcorn popper or stove top pan, and you still get the same roasted coffee beans. But you could also use the help of coffee roasters.

The Process

The process of home coffee bean roasting may not be that difficult and time consuming. It also does not require expensive equipments. To begin with, you would need green coffee beans. You may try Guatemalan Antigua, Colombian Supremo, or Costa Rican Tarrazu. These are just some of the high quality coffee beans you can use. There are more, but of course, if you want to make the best tasting coffee, you have to make use of the right coffee beans.

The next thing is to roast your coffee beans in the coffee roaster, popcorn popper, or stove top pan, whichever you have at home. You will also need pot holders, a cookie sheet to pour the roasted beans out, and a bowl to catch the chaff. A small scale may be helpful to measure the right amount of coffee beans used in each batch and a digital timer to have the right timing for roasting. You might also want to consider roasting coffee beans outside your home, probably the garage or somewhere else to avoid blowing the chaff inside your home.

The whole process would take about 15 to 20 minutes for a cup of coffee beans. But the time would generally depend on how dark you want your green coffee beans roasted. You then drain the beans and let them cool. After which, you have to shake them to remove the outer skin and sift with the use of a mesh cooking screen. Depending on their preference, some would want freshly roasted beans cooled immediately while others would want to let it cool to release carbon dioxide from 4 to 24 hours to have the best tasting coffee. From both the psychological and physiological perspective colour affects us directly when it enters the eye and is transmitted to the emotional centre of the brain the hypothalamus that in turn affects the pituitary gland the gland that controls the entire endocrine system the network of glands including pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal gland, pancreas, ovaries, and testes.

The thymus gland, pineal gland, and kidney are sometimes considered endocrine organs. They all release hormones into our bodies, hormones are protein messengers that help cells talk to each other. The endocrine system can affect moods and could account for Seasonal Affective disorder or S.A.D, it also affects sex drive, energy levels, and weight gain to name a few.

We are indirectly affected by colour as it can penetrate our bodies so that even blind people can benefit from colour therapy. This means that clothing, bed clothing, and diet can affect us the same way as the colours we actually see. It is commonly known that sunlight also has the effect of synthesising vitamin D through ultra violet radiation acting on the skin. However, photosensitive people can react to sunlight and develop a skin rash, but sunlight can be used to treat other skin conditions such as psoriasis.

The existence and purpose of the pineal gland has been a matter of long standing scientific debate. Recent scientific evidence shows that it is another master gland in addition to the pituitary, which acts as the body's light meter receiving light activated information from the hypothalamus. Its activity is activated by light changes and the earth's magnetic field and is part of our biological body clock that adjusts to varying lengths of daylight.

It is now recognised as the regulator of regulators controlling sexual function, growth, and aging, body temperature, blood

pressure, motor activity, sleep by the production of melatonin, tumour growth, and mood. The pineal gland has long been associated with spirituality and described as the third eye through which information to the body's energy centres are passed. When we get an imbalance of coloured light all the above bodily functions and our daily rhythms can be is thrown out of synchronisation with our needs to maintain our mental and physical health.

Warm and Magnetic Colours

Colour is sometimes referred to in terms of temperature, the red longer wavelengths colours are referred to as warm or magnetic colours while the shorter wavelengths towards to blue end on the spectrum are cool or electric colours. From the hottest red which has a lowest and slowest frequency but the most powerful penetrating affect, to orange and then yellow are generally taken to be the three main magnetic colours.

These colours are masculine and linked to action as they supply us with basic life force energies for action, they are warm, stimulating and energising, they are connected to the awareness of self and self-expression, physical and survival instincts, creativity and the mental processes. They are grounding colours that link us to the earth and discharge negativity from our system.

Complimentary Colours

Complimentary colours are colours that are directly across from each other on the colour wheel. They are called "complementary" because, when used together, they become extremely vibrant and have heavy contrast. Complimentary colours are useful when you want to make something stand out, for example, if you use a green background and have a red circle on it, the red will jump off the page and be almost blinding. In colour therapy, complementary colours reinforce each other and can be used in specific rations such as 755 red and 25% of its complimentary colour green.

The Aura

An aura is an envelope of vital energy, which radiates from everything in nature including minerals, plants, animals and humans. The aura is not visible to normal vision, but may be seen by using clairvoyance and specialized photographic equipment. The aura is often described as a multi coloured mist that has an assortment of boundaries and properties and binds our physical bodies to our spirituality; it is not in anyway separate from our physical body but they combine as one unit that makes up the whole person. The aura acts as a prism to divide white light into its component colours that are sent to different coloured layers around our bodies. These auric layers correspond to chakras or energy centres which in turn relate to major organs in our bodies. The aura is the way in which these chakras are energised and are the means by which we communicate with our aura and vice-versa.

This means we need a balance of all the colours in white light to remain healthy, an imbalance can affect our psychological well-being and cause physical illness; it is the task of the colour therapist to correct any imbalance present in the auric layers.

The Seven Main Chakras of the Spiritual Body and Their Respective Colours

Violet - Crown

Indigo - Brow

Blue - Throat

Green - Heart

Yellow - Solar Plexus

Orange - Sacral

Red - Root or Base

© Trevor Mayes 2007
About the Author:

Trevor Mayes is a qualified colour therapist and proprietor of Colour Counselling Therapy Healing which specialises in online diagnostic colour therapy and healing gemstones which is particularly suitable for stress relates issues. Even the great Greek and Roman philosophers approached the question: is music something that should be taught and does it help the development of children?

Plato answered "I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly music, for in the patterns of music and all arts are the keys to learning." And again “what then is the education to be? Perhaps we could hardly find a better than that which the experience of the past has already discovered, which consists, I believe, in gymnastic, for the body, and music for the mind.”

In all cultures of the world music plays an important role. While these roles may change depending on the culture it is impossible to separate music from the life of an individual. While some may argue the role of music in our lives it is impossible to escape it. Even in the popular culture of Australia it is impossible to go shopping without hearing music. Music provides a means of communication and expression of culture and individual identity.

Children are immersed in music from birth and will be for their entire life. If this is the case why teach it? Is not the constant immersion in music enough? To this I say; is the fact that we witness the results of scientific principals on a day to day basis result in the understanding of those scientific principles? No it does not and likewise for music it does not either. The day to day encounters we have with music can move us but the understanding of this music can help us grow as individuals.

In many cultures the family plays the main role in music education. Families are most commonly the ones that teach children the music of their culture. As young children, we are commonly sung nursery rhymes. These provide entertainment for the child and often information in small repeated fashion. Children learn through the repetition and structure that the information was delivered in. many nursery rhymes teach fundamental life lesson and therefore sets music up as a means of educating. Children learn from music from a young age and will continue to for the rest of their lives. In a world where globalization and consumerism are dominating cultural identities are drifting into the background and children are more likely to be sung pop songs as lullaby’s than nursery rhymes. The benefit of nursery rhymes and progressive learning has become an issue. Children are missing out on fundamental learning opportunities.

The Mozart effect which gained a large following in the 1990’s claimed that listening to Mozart as a baby will make a child smarter. While this movement was short lived and there is little proof that it works there has been no denying that children who learn music will achieve higher in other aspects of their academic life. In earning music children learn to express their identities, gain confidence and develop sense of time and space. A research team at the university of Munster in Germany discovered that students who study music have more developed abstract reasoning skills which are closely linked to learning in the areas of science and maths.

I do not believe that there is any argument to this question…music is a vital part of a child’s education and should be taken seriously. Listening to music is not enough! A child must learn to think musically and that is what will help assist the development of the child and their academic development.

written by Gemma Lee from www.shinemusic.com.au teachers of piano, saxophone, violin, singing, drums, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, flute and clarinet

About the Author:
shine music teachers of Piano, saxophone, violin, singing, drums, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, flute and clarinet
Article Source: ArticlesBase.com - Does Music Help Children?
Vaibhavi Bhidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18432766324743773337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014465091671951716.post-46135930547295995142009-09-26T22:11:00.001+05:302009-09-26T22:13:31.747+05:30Getting A Good Nights Sleep<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1kbONMNaCy9uFBlbCHUnNGQUTPY3WpcXjnFoEC7cqSMDnnws5N-X_kK0qErxmop3UKabeUom_dofzcchfu9Sz_eGs9CwpftkOtXdZ_udUGH9osxV1YggYnWa2Kf6OjpWGzTWLbu3UvQXv/s400/sleep.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5385817706100316674" />
Author: Sarah Reddingworth
Do you need to get a good nights sleep when you go bed? Is insomnia plaguing you? Read this article and get back into the rhythm of a good nights sleep in bed. This article will help you accomplish that! Join me as we focus on a good nights sleep. Sleep is an essential factor.

Some can sleep in bed for 4 hours a night, others need a minimum of 8 hours, and sometimes we need more, especially to recover. With bad sleeping patterns, insomnia, etc, it really can affect our daytime life. So getting the right balance is essential. There can be a number of reasons why there is a problem in this area. If it is insomnia, then it generally is that we take our daytime problems to bed. We try to sleep while our minds are rushing around the problems in life. This is a major cause of insomnia. Ever tried sleeping the night before an interview or exam? We could be up till 4am, trying to sleep! We could try to figure out solutions we don't even know the questions to. Our mouths might get dry, and we get up to drink water 10 times in one night, rustling in bed and all that! The first step is to leave those thoughts out of your bed. Your bed is for sleeping in. So leave the problems. If you can't then a good idea is to say mind - deal with this or God - deal with this and leave it at that. If that doesn't work, then imagine a light bulb in your mind, and mentally switch off the lights, then have a good nights sleep. Your bed may also be an issue, if your mattress is old. Try turning the mattress over to even out and balance the springs or coils. Also consider buying a new bed or mattress. This is a great way to get major comfort. Memory foam mattresses are great if you have back problems. If you have a partner in bed and it is a small bed, consider getting a king size! This can be a great way to give you more room. Another solution is hypnosis. There are a lot of courses on CD that can help with insomnia. Play it back and it can have a major effect to program you to sleep peacefully. Another option is to look at your eating habits. Eating just before sleeping is not a great idea, however nor is an empty stomach. If you find yourself getting up at night for a snack, this is not a bad thing. I for example need to have something in my belly. Having something light before sleeping is a great idea, especially if like me, you just can't sleep on an empty stomach. Bananas are a great idea as it is very light, and gives you potassium which is good for the brain. Another solution is meditation, which works so well. Select the time you want to sleep, and half an hour before sit in a chair, in quietness, quiet the mind, and focus on silence. Make your mind be like still water, and if you can do this you will find that your brainwaves calm down which makes you feel tired, at which time get into bed and have a great blissful sleep. Then it becomes beauty sleep!About the Author:

Stop! Women should have no more than 100 calories daily from sugar that’s added to foods and drinks. Men should have no more than 150 of these calories daily.

Unfortunately, the average American consumes 375 calories from added sugar daily. In fact, about half the increase in calories in the past 30 years comes from beverages. Twelve ounces of regular cola have about 130 calories of sugar. Is seems Americans aren’t drinking to their health.

According to a study in the journal “Neurology”, people as young as 45 who have high diastolic blood pressure are more likely to have problems with memory. The diastolic number is the bottom number on a blood pressure reading. Blood pressure readings of 140/90 or above are considered high and every 10-point increase in the diastolic number increases the likelihood of memory problems 7%. Thus it’s thought preventing or treating high blood pressure could help prevent memory loss. Considering 1 out of 3 Americans have high blood pressure, 1 out of 3 could have difficulty remembering this.

According to a study published in the journal “Social Science & Medicine”, worry about losing a job is worse for peoples’ health than not having a job. In fact, chronic job insecurity was a stronger predictor of poor health than smoking or hypertension. It’s not just the loss of income that causes this stress; it’s also the loss of health insurance, retirement benefits and peace of mind. Previous research has shown that stress leads to a range of poor health conditions that can shorten life. Of course, other research has shown that job security in a stressful job can shorten life too.

According to Dr. Martin Wiseman of the American Institute for Cancer Research/World Cancer Research Fund, nearly 40% of breast cancer in the U.S. could be prevented. The report, which reviewed 81 new studies on the links between lifestyle and cancer, showed that 70,000 cases of breast cancer could be prevented a year if women maintained a healthy weight, drank only 1 alcoholic drink a day, exercised at least 30 minutes a day and breastfed their babies. Breast cancer kills 400,000 women worldwide every year, with 40,000 dying in the U.S. While the government struggles with health care, women can help care for their own health.
About the Author:

Knight Pierce Hirst has written for television, newspapers and greeting cards. It was suggested that they find someone who could play he harp and then the evil spirit would leave and King Saul would feel better. So they searched and found a young shepherd boy named David and he was commissioned to play for Saul whenever the evil spirit came upon him.

Researchers have found that certain types of music are more uplifting to the soul than others. Although you may think that a way to relax would be to listen to your favorite rock band, you are sadly mistaken. This will only rev up your engines and make you more stressed than when you started out. No, the way to personal harmony must come from a very specific kind of music. Not all music relaxes, you must personally feel more relaxed, your breathing must become slower and deeper for music to have a relaxing effect on you.

Whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would take his harp and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him. 1 Samuel 16:23(KJV)

According to composer and music researcher Stephen Halpern Ph.D., "Music is not all that meets the ear. If you were to have earplugs in your ears, you cold still 'feel the music'" he explains. "That's because music is vibrations. And these vibrations affect your heartbeat, blood flow, brain waves - your entire body chemistry.

So it is by our body responses that we can tell if music is truly relaxing us or not.

In order to truly enjoy the music it is best if you can get yourself focused on it by either sitting still or lying down and really soak it in.

I realize that there are times when you just can't do this and just listening while going about your work is better than nothing, but it will not have the same effect as actually absorbing yourself in it.

I personally love to just run a hot bath with my favorite aroma, lavender. Then I light candles around the bathroom and turn off all of the lights. This is my special time when I can relax and toss away the cares of the day. In the living room, right next to the bathroom, I have beautiful classical or new age music playing softly. As it permeates the room, mixed with the scent of my bath and candles, I am in another world, totally relaxed without a care in the world.

Music, in my view, is the most influential and powerful therapy that you can provide yourself. Candles have lit our way through many millennia not only as the only source of light but also symbolically as the flame of life in celebrations and ceremonies, proclamations and processions. Candle light creates an almost hypnotic and tranquil atmosphere that allows the mind to drift off into a very special place or retreat from the pressures of every day life.

A candle acts as a reflection of our selves as we would like to be and helps us plan how we can bring about positive change to make our dreams come true. On a spiritual level, the candle reflects the spiritual changes we would like to bring about in ourselves. The candle flame acts as a reminder and a symbol of our burning desires. Sometimes we have to allow our subconscious to take over and allow a force more powerful than we are to give us guidance. Simply lighting a candle of a particular colour or essential oil will assist in other therapy methods such as colour breathing and visualisation.

Candle therapy is important in colour therapy and to assist in meditation as it is the vibration of the flame that helps put you in touch with our spiritual or higher self. The colour of the candle and the aroma of scented candles is a way of including the colours you need to correct any imbalance in your aura or chakras. However, you do not need to light them as simply having them as a decoration to look at with also assist in the colour therapy healing process. You should never blow out a candle as folklore has it that it will offend the fire element and the spirits, candles should be extinguished using a snuffer or by dunking in the molten wax.

© Trevor Mayes 2007
About the Author:

Trevor Mayes is a qualified colour therapist and proprietor of Colour Counselling Therapy Healing which specialises in online diagnostic colour therapy and healing gemstones which is particularly suitable for stress relates issues. You might be avoiding chocolate because it is “bad for you” or “bad for the baby.” However, chocolate is actually proving to have unexpected health benefits, and these benefits may be doubly important for pregnant women and the development of healthy babies.

We know that chocolate makes us naturally happier. It releases endorphins which act to dull pain and just make us generally feel better. It also stimulates the brain and body. Recent research has found that chocolate can also have positive effects on the fetus. The infants whose mothers ate chocolate regularly throughout pregnancy were found more inclined to smiling, laughter, and were more easily soothed. Strangely enough, it seems that chocolate can make both you and your baby happier.

Chocolate also has several health benefits when taken wisely. Chocolate, especially dark, is full of powerful antioxidants that protect against cell damage. This can be important especially when your body is under the stress of pregnancy. It can also help against fatigue and be preventative against future diseases. When you are pregnant you are more prone to exhaustion as your body supports the development of another person.

Gestational hypertension can happen because of the increased blood volume during pregnancy. Theobromine is a natural substance found in chocolate that fights against fatigue by stimulating the heart. It also increases circulation in the placenta to aid in fetal development. Magnesium is another element in chocolate that is important during pregnancy in the development of the fetus’ brain. Since chocolate has many good substances in it, it may be that when you are craving chocolate you are in fact craving something your body needs.

Obviously chocolate alone is not enough to give you all the vitamins you need during pregnancy. It would be impossible for you to get all you need in your diet alone, and that is why prenatal vitamins are so important. The prenatal vitamin and chocolate have actually now been combined so you have a good tasting prenatal chocolate. These are great because they have been specifically designed for health conscious women during their pregnancy. Taking a chocolate vitamin can allow you to give in to your craving while at the same time monitoring how much chocolate you eat. It is the perfect solution for someone who needs to take a daily vitamin anyway. There are also other “healthy” chocolates you can invest in such as dark chocolate or sugar free, or chocolates to boost energy, creating more ways to ease cravings without having to feel guilty after.

Chocolate has many benefits, but anything in excess is bad for you. Regular chocolate is high in sugar and not good for you in disproportionate amounts. Make smart choices about your chocolates, make sure you are moderate in your intake, and make sure you are taking care of yourself and keeping yourself healthy and then you can let loose and give in to some of those cravings.
About the Author:

For more info on delicious healthy chocolates, visit MyTopForm.com

Article Source: ArticlesBase.com - Healthy Baby, Happy Mother -- Prenatal Chocolates

Vaibhavi Bhidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18432766324743773337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014465091671951716.post-80206180336538365672009-08-26T21:23:00.002+05:302009-08-26T21:36:41.834+05:30Best Beauty Tips For A Healthy And Natural Look<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 257px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_bCcQMFzTU_jv6QfdplzTT49SCk2_1ugrGjRXzwrARiPWl6SpqNLeWRXdNQxlxnsLYt2BywspcipqBrfse2hkUf0NHw9l4IRQ7Qf800mA1vviO8NyJmq_mRQ5TFmB8pcZZQHSkxyF3CpU/s400/1209045_35164067.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5374304573223623554" />
Author: Redmund

Women in today’s generation give more priority to their external beauty. In this stress-filled world, sometimes a person really needs to relax for them to be able to handle the day that's ahead of them. With things like work, school, and other activities, they can sometimes seem as if they are a little too much for us to handle. Unfortunately, especially with current economic climates, not everyone has the luxury of going to the spa for the weekend.

Luckily, there is the opportunity of creating the spa experience at the spa place. This is a cost-effective solution for those who want to reduce some stress and also feel the added comfort of kicking back at spa place! There are a few things that a person will need to create this experience, and they're pretty cheap, so one would not have to spend much to make their spa comparable to the expensive romps.

Equipment

Firstly, you're going to obviously want to acquire the items that you need to create this magical experience. The typical spa revolves around the body, face, and hair, so make sure that you keep these things in mind while you're running to the store. Although there are many items that the spa uses, here are a few basics:

- Anti-oxidant toners, cleansers, and moisturizers

- Your favorite loofah

- Bath Brush (preferably the ones with the long handles)

- Bath Salts

- Spring Water (preferably with lemon)

- Essential Oils

Usage

All of these things play a vital role in creating your spa experience at spa place, as these are the basic things (more or less) that they use in the traditional spa. The key to really making this magic is to use the body scrubs to remove all of the toxins from the body, while stimulating the skin. Use the essential oils in the spring water for the best effect, and make sure to gently, yet thoroughly, cleanse the body with the loofah. The bath salts can also be added to the solution for the cooling effect.

Facial Rejuvenation

This is probably one of the biggest things in the spa, as everyone wants to leave the spa with that radiant glow, which are essentially the same reasons why celebrities stay a week at the professional spas. One of the noteworthy things to stay here is that everyone should remember that the skin on the face is some of the most delicate on the body. It is advisable that a person does not use any harsh soaps or cleansing agents here, and be sure to be gentle!

The Spa Treatment

Using these ingredients to make a spa treatment at spa place is something that more and more people are finding to be a really good alternative than shelling out a lot of money. The person who tries this will be someone who feels relaxed and ready to take on the next day, almost with a new lease on life!
About the Author:
The Facial Place provide acne treatment, laser hair removal, facials Ajax, Laser Skin Treatment and many other Spa Pickering, Spa Ajax products and services.
Article Source: ArticlesBase.com - Some Things For Creating an Spa Place

Vaibhavi Bhidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18432766324743773337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014465091671951716.post-54769757609011865302009-08-23T12:04:00.003+05:302009-08-23T13:15:44.054+05:30Healthy Habits<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtGVPmXOXutSaxBCMYblTirf3KC4qGRbH99y2qSPBrpYLfaX5msEONlfIIMck6iHObQGY9cr4Jw5d4qZgomvlvptbUmdknEcYeYtGDjWy_HCrI3imiQrZdsL1793_y9_jTwbcy4p9ehFVz/s400/1167998_85423922.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5373060977975666434" />
Author: Jacob

It is common knowledge that we should all regularly consume healthy foods. Sadly, most of us do not. Many of us are guilty of gorging on foods that are filled with saturated fat and loads of useless calories. Between meals, we have a tendency to reach for greasy chips or sugary candy bars instead of healthy snacks.

Eating the right foods, eating too much, or not eating enough can affect our health. You need to be able to choose the right types of foods that will improve the way you feel. In order to do this you need to know exactly what foods can hurt your body and what can boost its wellness.

A large number of people around the world are suffering from different types of heart conditions and diseases. The most common cause of heart problems is eating unhealthy, fatty foods. Food rich in saturated fats reduces the absorption of cholesterol in the body. High cholesterol leads to deposit of fatty acids in the body, which in turn reduces the blood flow to the arteries and causes severe heart problems. It is therefore important to eat healthy food because healthy eating is the key to healthy heart.

One of the worst eating habits is to skip breakfast. There are lots of people who feel that they can manage things without having breakfast. In this fast-paced life, skipping breakfast has really become common which is the reason why people are experiencing different illnesses. You must understand that you have not eaten anything for past 9-10 hours. So, you must never skip breakfast.

Work is often the hardest place to maintain healthy eating habits. Lunch or dinner meetings are all too common – and the food is often catered in. If you do have a choice in the menu, then order something healthy and plan to eat half. With today’s portions, half of the meal should be plenty to fill you up. Offer to split your meal with a colleague, or simply stick it in the fridge for the next day.

About the Author:

Read About Make up Tips Read Also About Celtic Wedding Gown and Indoor Games For Your Preschooler

Article Source: ArticlesBase.com - Healthy Habits

Vaibhavi Bhidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18432766324743773337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014465091671951716.post-59509869286311123072009-08-19T21:46:00.002+05:302009-08-19T21:48:11.141+05:30The Best of Indian Foods<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 317px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrjLMwzfdiGhU9FdUVLVV2eAXHfVhRGECorqVBmHyJF2wnfpZRbTFQOV4Sq_etviZ_ywyjOhETZk4MIlqe7mYr9g4s595t6Akx1wZFbRv24viFVjJwel9BYObhY3LFXM1J5hhjwnIoy9eO/s400/ind+f.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371709936857475938" />
Author: Dave Text

Indian cuisines are diverse and famous all over the world. See in here the different categories of foods that can be found in India and learn why many people love to eat it.

India is a big Asian country made up of different cities. Its food is as diverse as its many cities. The Indian cuisine is categorized into four categories namely the North Indian, East Indian, South Indian and West Indian cuisines.

Indian recipes and cooking always involves wide range of spices and herbs. These usually add or enhance the flavors during preparation. They also create aromatic flavors that Indians love. Most recipes are from the vegetables that grown around them.

Indian foods show the rich agricultural products of India. Other factors that affect cooking are the religious beliefs and culture of the locals. It is also largely influenced by other foods across Asia. In the same way, their foods have also influenced other cooking traditions across the world.

Indian foods are distinctly flavorful because of the generous use of spices and herbs. Of course their recipes will also involve their unique vegetables found only in their country.

There are also non-vegetarian parts of the Indian cuisine. It is juicy and made of very tender meat. The common ingredients used are eggs, chicken, fish and many other meats. They actually have many varieties of meat, fish and poultry dishes. If you want to get that pearly white teeth here are some tips that you will find useful.

Whiten your teeth by using baking soda to brush your teeth. To make things easier for you get your own personal box of baking soda. And then here's what you need to do to use the baking soda while brushing your teeth. Make sure your toothbrush is dry then dip this in the baking soda completely. Use this to brush your teeth thoroughly then scrub on all sides. Do this constantly thrice a day or every after meals for two months and you will notice a difference in the color of your teeth. If you really want really white teeth, you should make this a daily habit.

You can also try brushing your teeth with hydrogen peroxide to make your teeth whiter. Just put a small amount of peroxide in a cup then dip the brush into the cup making sure the brush is covered completely by the peroxide. Brush your teeth with the hydrogen peroxide just once a day. Spit any peroxide and make sure you didn't swallow any of it then rinse with water followed by a mouthwash. Similar with baking soda, you will notice an improvement in the color of your teeth after two months. Though many individuals think hydrogen peroxide is an effective teeth whitening agent, continue to use caution because this is a highly poisonous substance. Do not forget to think of the risks that come with using this substance.

If you are really interested about teeth whitening, then use both baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. You can combine a few drops of peroxide and a teaspoon of baking soda to form a paste that you can use to brush your teeth. After brushing your teeth, rinse with water then gargle with a mouthwash. This would give you a double strength teeth whitening formula that would certainly make your teeth whiter in just a few months especially if you make it a habit of brushing your teeth regularly..

Aside from using peroxide and baking soda, a good diet will be useful in maintaining a white and healthy set of teeth. Stay away from sugar or anything sweet to keep away from tooth decay. Tap water is also an excellent source of fluorides so make it a habit to drink plenty of water in a day. If you are a smoker or a drinker who would like to make your teeth whiter, as much as possible quit these bad habits. They will only discolor your teeth. Vitamins would also keep your teeth stronger so make it a habit of taking these on a daily basis.

Finally, never miss brushing your teeth especially after each meal. Flossing and rinsing your teeth after brushing with a toothpaste or any of the mentioned substitutes would help maintain the good health of your teeth and prevent further discoloration.

About the Author:

The article was written from my own experiences. Many believe that their height is inevitable and unchangeable, a trait designed by their genes. This simply isn’t true. There are many methods to increase height that are very effective.

In order to understand why they’re effective, it’s important to learn how we grow in the first place. When we are babies, we have many more bones than we do as adults. Why is this? This is mostly because, as babies, some of our bones are made of cartilage. As we grow, this cartilage warps and melds and hardens to form adult bones. During puberty, cartilage growth plates located at the ends of our longer bones start to lengthen slowly. This is what contributes to the wild growth spurts we experience.

Knowing that, here are some helpful methods to increase height:

1. Exercise

When you are experiencing puberty, exercising is one of the most important things you can do for your body. Not only does it release helpful height growth hormones, but it also keeps your bones healthy and strong. By exercising regularly during puberty, you can make the most of your growth spurts.

Exercising when you’re an adult is also very helpful. It keeps you from gaining weight, which can put additional stress on your bones. Being slender also aids in creating the illusion that you’re taller. However, it’s impossible to lengthen your bones through stretches and exercises after they’ve finished growing.

2. Diet.

Your diet has one of the biggest effects on your bones and your height. Did you know that not getting enough nutrients when you’re young can result in stunted growth? It’s true! Calcium in particular is very important for healthy, growing bones. Foods that are rich in protein, amino acids, calories, and other nutrients help give your body what it needs to have enough energy and stamina. It also aids in replenishing your body when it needs it.

3. Wardrobe

If you’re an adult and wish you were taller, there are several ways you can alter your appearance to make yourself look taller. You can do this by dressing in dark, solid colors or pinstripes. Wearing shoes with heels or height enhancing insoles may sound like an obvious solution, but it works. Wearing bigger shoes, such as boots or tennis shoes, can make your feet look bigger, which helps the illusion.

Want to learn more? River is only 8 months old and in babies and pregnant women, swine flu can be very serious. The pandemic has taken 29 lives in the UK so far, (with the majority of these cases seeing underlying health issues), including a pregnant woman, a baby and children.

A report in US News, "Dealing with the Swine Flu Threat During Pregnancy" brought up some salient points which every pregnant woman needs to know about.

Firstly, pregnant women and children have been advised to get the H1N1 vaccination when it comes out in the next month or so, but the question is should pregnant women and children be one of the first or last to receive this vaccination? The vaccination is so new that this would effectively be a mass drugs trial to which we do not definitely know the outcome. "Just today, public health experts said that there's no way to know if any rare side effects will occur in the new vaccine until millions of people are vaccinated. Those unknowns would make an expectant mom especially nervous." Deborah Kotz, US News

Secondly, flu vaccinations contain thimerosal, a mercury-containing preservative that was banished from other childhood vaccines several years ago but is still used in most flu vaccines.

Studies on mercury have shown that this element passes into the brain and remains there. Mercury can have profound effects on a developping fetus, which is why pregnant women are advised not to eat shellfish, tuna, shark, mackerel, king and tilefish. (A good pregnancy diet and exercise should take this into account, so if you are following a specific pregnancy fitness program, you should be safe.)

There are thimerosal-free versions of the vaccine available but you may struggle to find a doctor who stocks this.

"John Iskander, the previous head of immunization safety at the CDC, told me last fall that the reason the agency doesn't recommend thimerosal-free vaccines is because "there's still not enough women receiving the flu vaccine, and we don't want to throw up another barrier in the vaccination process." " Deborah Kotz, US News

Lastly, pregnant women who have been exposed to someone who has the virus should get the antiviral drug Tamiflu. This advice does not apply to non-pregnant women (or men in fact!).

The best thing you can do to make sure you stay healthy and fit during pregnancy is take proper precautions. Always wash your hands after being in a public place and it's worth carrying a bottle of hand sanitizer in your handbag for occasions when you are out and there's no access to a washbasin. Make sure your children have good hand hygeine too.

If you are pregnant and you do have symptoms, contact your GP straight away. Stay hydrated and stock up on nutrient dense foods.

About the Author:

For Pregnancy Health & Fitness Made Simple (ie. no brainpower required on your part!), grab a free copy of Nisha's latest ebook, POWER Pregnancy - The 5 Health Secrets Every Expectant Mother MUST Know! http;//www.the9monthclub.com

Article Source: ArticlesBase.com - Dealing with the Swine Flu Threat During Pregnancy

Vaibhavi Bhidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18432766324743773337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014465091671951716.post-61233069877609226082009-08-01T21:33:00.002+05:302009-08-01T21:37:51.639+05:30Seeing well after 40<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 220px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6q8RuJ3FrmxMl892qOlC9kuCO3FqU_nhJXwMCQ6fpD6ut1Onorr6Ppj23B54pMx9o7fo-vZM25mUWA0zMtlvSY5cLd1JeGBwx9BERx6nhvWBcvQl6I0l5O01g-QjLIVGnAz2zb0OLEUKZ/s400/eyes.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5365027724700287090" />
Author: Ants Haavel

Many eye diseases and disorders are more common as we age. Advances in ophthalmology allow most people maintain good vision as they grow older.many eye problems can be prevented or corrected if detected in their early stages. regular eye examinations by ophthalmologist are best way to detect eye conditions early, while they can be treated . An ophthalmologist is medical doctor with special training and skills to diagnose and treat all diseases of the eye. The following are eye problems commonly experienced among older people.

presbyopia

When you are young, the lens in your eye is flexible and changes shape easily, allowing you to focus on objects both close and far away. As you get older, your lens becomes less flexible. By about age 44, the lens cannot change shape as easily as it once did and it becomes more difficult to read. This normal condition is called presbyopia.

floaters

You may sometimes see small specks or clouds moving in your field of vision. They are called floaters. You can often see them when looking at plain fair background, like white wall or blue sky. Floaters are actually tiny clumps of gel or cells inside the vitreous, the clear , jelly-like fluid that fills the inside of the eye. What you see are the shadows they cast on the retina, the nerve layer at the back of the eye that senses light and sends images to the brain You should see an ophthalmologist right away if suddenly develop new floaters , especially if they are associated with flashes of the light . These symptoms may indicate a torn retina, which could lead to retinal detachment.

cataract

A cataract is clouding of the eye's naturally clear lens, like a window that is "fogged" with steam. When the lens becomes cloudy , light rays cannot pass through it easily and vision becomes blurry. protecting your eyes from strong sunlight may slow the blurring of vision due cataract. There are no medications, eye drops, exercises or glasses they have formed. Surgery is the only way to remove a cataract. Common symptoms of cataract include:

painless blurring of vision

frequent eyeglass prescription changes

glare and halos

colors that look dulled and brownish

poor night vision

It is up to you to decide when to have a cataract removed. When you are not to able to see well enough to do the things you like or need to do, you should consider cataract surgery. in cataract surgery, the cloudy lens is removed from the eye through 5 mm incision. In most cases, the focusing power of the natural lens is restored by replacing it with a permanent intraocular lens implant. cataract surgery improves vision in most cases. cataract surgery is usually done on an outpatients basis, so you can go home same day after few hours.

glaucoma

Galucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness in developed world. It is a disease of optic nerve, which is the part of the eye to the brain. Galucoma can damage nerve fibres, causing blind spots in our vision. Glaucoma affects the pressure inside the eye, or intraocular pressure. aqueous humor is a clear liquid that normally flows in and out of the clear liquid that normally flows in and out of the eye. When liquid cannot drain properly, pressure builds up in the eye. The resulting increase in pressure can damage the optic nerve. The most important risk factors for glaucoma include:

age

family history of glaucoma

African origin

past eye injuries

past eye injuries

The only sure way to detect glaucoma is with a complete eye examination. Symptoms of glaucoma are not noticeable until much damage has already occurred. Early diagnosis and treatment is the key to preventing blindness. Your ophthalmologist can determine if you have glaucoma after examining the pressure in your eye , inspecting the optic nerve by microscope, checking by special computer your field of vision and scanning by laser your optic nerve fibres. Glaucoma is usually controlled with eye drops. Laser surgery or operative surgery may be done if the drops do not control pressure. These treatments only stop further damage; they cannot reverse any damage or loss of sight that has already occurred. That is why early detection and taking eye drops as prescribed are so important to prevent blindness from glaucoma.

macular degeneration

Macular degeneration is damage or breakdown of the macula of the eye. The macula is a small, central area of the eye that allows us to see fine details clearly. Macular degeneration is caused by ageing and thinning of the tissues of the macula. vision loss is usually gradual. In some cases abnormal blood vessels develop and leak fluid or blood under the macula. Vision loss in this case may be rapid. When the macula doesn't function correctly, you experience blurriness or distortion in the centre of your vision. Macular degeneration makes close work, like reading or threading a needle difficult or impossible. Although macular degeneration reduces reading vision, it does not affect your peripheral vision. For example, you could see the outline of a clock but not be able to tell what time it is. Macular degeneration alone does not result in total blindness. If you experience one or more of the following symptoms, have your eyes examined promptly:

words on a page look blurred in the centre;

straight lines look distorted, especially towards the centre of your vision;

a dark or empty area appears in the centre of vision;

colors look dim

There is no proven cure for macular degeneration. In some people who have leaking blood vessels , laser surgery and intraocular injections may slow or prevent additional vision loss. various low-vision optical devices can help people continue with many of their normal activities. They include:

magnifying devices;

closed-circuit television;

large-print reading materials;

talking or computerized devices

Your ophthalmologist can prescribe optical devices or refer you to a vision rehabilitation specialist or center. because side vision is usually not affected , a person's remaining sight can be very useful. A wide range of support services , rehabilitation programs and devices are available to help people with macular degeneration maintain satisfying living standard.

diabetic eye problems

Many older adults have diabetes, a disease in which the body does not use or store sugar properly. Diabetes can cause changes in the vessels, veins and arteries that carry blood throughout your body. This disease can affect your vision by causing cataracts, glaucoma and , most importantly , damage to blood vessels inside the eye. When blood vessels in the retina are damaged, they may leak fluid or blood , and grow fragile brush-like branches and scar tissue. This condition , called diabetic retinopathy, can blur or distort the images that the retina sends to the brain. Laser surgery is the most common treatment for diabetic retinopathy. It often does not return vision to normal, but is very helpful in preventing continued loss of vision. You can have serious, sight treating retinopathy without any symptoms. The best protection against loss of vision from diabetic retinopathy is to have regular eye examinations by your ophthalmologist. People with diabetes should have eye examinations at least once a year , or as recommended by their ophthalmologist. most older people have good vision. If you do develop a vision problem , early diagnosis and treatment by an ophthalmologist can help to preserve your sight. recommended is comprehensive eye evaluation every 2-4 years for people aged 40-64 tears old and every 1-2 years to people 65 and older.

read more <a href="http://www.ksa.ee/eng/">
About the Author:

Dr. Ants Haavel

Dental cavities are yet another common problem in adolescents.

Orthodontics is a specialty in dentistry which deals with correction, development and prevention of irregular teeth, jaw and bite. Orthodontics also helps to correct jaw disorders and facial abnormalities. If a general dentist feels abnormalities in the adolescent, he/she will refer the patient to an orthodontist. The American Dental Association suggests that every adolescent above the age of seven should get an orthodontic evaluation done. Problems which require orthodontic treatment are crowded or crooked teeth, extra teeth, missing teeth, under-bite, overbite, jaw joint disorder, and incorrect or misaligned jaw position.

To get braces or any other orthodontic treatments, the appropriate age is ten to fourteen years. But regardless of the age, the same physical and biological process is used in correcting and moving the teeth alignments. Braces are also known as fixed orthodontic appliances. There are three types of braces used to move and reposition the teeth. The first consists of brackets which are made out of plastic or metal. They are either of tooth color or clear and are bonded onto the teeth. The second type is the lingual type of brackets which are attached to the back teeth and cannot be seen while talking. The third type is a band. It is a metal band which covers the teeth and wraps around the last ones.

When adolescents wear braces they have to take certain precautions in order to avoid any more oral health complications. The most important precautionary measure is to brush the teeth regularly after every meal. Since the food can be easily lodged in braces, it is a good idea to brush carefully with soft bristles toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. In the morning, the adolescent must floss between the braces and teeth. Food stuffs which are sticky or hard must be avoided as they are very difficult to remove. Foods like caramel, chew candy, popcorn, and nuts must be avoided. Cleaning must be done by the orthodontist or general dentist, every five to six months.

The wisdom teeth or third molars can grow in people of the age fifteen to twenty five. These teeth cause problem, because most of the mouths are too small to adjust new teeth and hence they need to be removed. If the wisdom tooth has place to grow, without affecting other teeth, they can be left to themselves. But if the adolescent experiences pain, facial swelling, mouth infection and gum-line swelling, then they should be extracted immediately. They can also destroy the second molars and impact other tooth. Various gum and jaw diseases can be caused. There can be a tumor development; cysts development and plaque build up. Hence, a surgery is performed to remove the tooth or teeth. The gum tissue covering the wisdom tooth is removed and the connective tissue connecting the tooth to the bone is detached. The tooth is then removed and the opening is sutured. A general dentist can perform wisdom tooth surgery in the local office using anesthesia.

Five times common than asthma is tooth cavities. The tooth above the gum line is made up of enamel, the hardest tissue within the human body. The tooth below the gum-line comprise of nerves, roots and dentin. Dentin is another type of tissue and isn’t as hard as the enamel. The acid which leads to tooth decay is produced by bacteria. These acids, along with dietary sugar, attach the enamel and eat away the minerals within the enamel, until a cavity is formed. This is known as tooth cavity. The biggest prevention against dental cavities is brushing teeth twice a day and even better, after every meal with fluoride toothpaste and soft bristle toothbrush. Carbonated drinks must be avoided strictly and must be replaced with fruit juices and sugary food must be avoided. Intake of fluoridated water also helps a lot or fluoride supplements can be used as replacement.
About the Author:

http://www.lifefone.com Medical Alarms from LifeFone will provide you or your family member with 24/7 monitored medical emergency Response System.
Whiten and brighten dingy teeth with high-tech treatments in your dentist's office or over-the-counter bleaches you use at home. Here's how to bring that sparkle back.

Instructions

Step 1

Ask your dentist if you're a good candidate for whitening, since results can vary. Yellowed teeth generally lighten well; darkened grayish or brownish teeth may not.

Step 2

Try over-the-counter products, which have low concentrations of hydrogen peroxide. A dental tray and gel kit can be used for a short time each day to lighten teeth one to two shades in two weeks, at best. Whitening strips cover the six front teeth--which must be even--for similar results, and keep peroxide on teeth and off gums. Paint-on gels get similar results and cover more teeth, but can be messy to use. Hydrogen peroxide works faster than carbamide (see Step 3), but takes longer to get results and deactivates faster. These are the least-expensive treatments to use when staining reoccurs due to beverages and smoking.

Step 3

Use a dentist-made tray at home twice daily for an hour for a couple of weeks, or wear it overnight. The gel's active ingredient is 10, 15 or 20 percent carbamide peroxide, which is gentler than hydrogen peroxide. Teeth could lighten several shades depending on the strength of the gel used. Higher percentages work faster but also increase the chance of teeth sensitivity. Ask your dentist for whitening products that include fluoride to reduce sensitivity.

Step 4

Whiten your teeth by up to 10 shades in one 60- to 90-minute session with a potent, light-activated bleaching formula of 35 percent hydrogen peroxide.

Step 5

Consider porcelain veneers or bonding if you have conditions where bleaching isn't effective, such as tetracycline or intrinsic staining. Bonding is a resin that's contoured over teeth. Veneers are thin porcelain manufactured in a laboratory.

Step 6

Keep in mind that two to three weeks of whitening by over-the-counter products equals one week of overnight tray treatment from the dentist--and may well equal one hour of the light-activated treatments.

We are a people-oriented privately owned Dental Practice in San Francisco, so we look forward to knowing you - as friends as well as patients. A well-managed breakfast is the easiest way to either cut calories out of your day or offset bigger meals you plan to eat for lunch or dinner.

“People who eat breakfast tend to be more organized,” says Dr. Don Gates, owner and medical director of MyDietSolutions.com. They plan out their day, managing the foods they eat and setting aside time for physical activity.

Breakfast not only provides an opportunity for dieters to stock up on nutritious, protein-rich foods, it also utilizes what they eat to provide extra energy through the day--energy they will need to exercise and stay fit.

“[Breakfast-eaters] get fewer calories from saturated fat and more calories from carbohydrates and protein," Gates adds. "They also tend to be more active and make better food choices."

Some great breakfasts include

Grapefruit or orange juice (100 calories per 1-cup serving)

Oatmeal (120 to 180 calories per serving)

Eggs (from 55-calorie boiled eggs to 100-calorie omelets/ fried eggs)

Bacon (from 25-calorie slices of turkey bacon to 45-calorie regular slices)

Toast (75 calories a slice)

Low-calorie breakfast cereals (be careful to check the box, since many “healthy” brands have calorie counts of over 200)

Breakfast or protein bars (again, check the calorie count, since many “energy” bars pack in hundreds of calories)

The worst low-calorie breakfast you can eat has zero calories. Skipping breakfast increases the likelihood of snacking when the hunger hits—or bingeing at a meal later in the day.

About the Author:

James is a Tennessee-based writer and teacher. What about those times when we experience abnormal hair loss or more permanent hair loss?

Normal Hair Loss

Normally, about 90% of your hair is growing and 10% is "resting." The resting hair sits for 2-3 months and then falls out and starts bringing in new growth. This is why you can usually pull a few strands out of your head in the shower every day - it's the hair that's leaving to make room for new growth.

Abnormal Hair Loss

There is some abnormal hair loss that is, technically, normal. For example, many women experience hair loss about three months after giving birth. This is normal because the heightened hormone levels produced by pregnancy cause some hair to continue growing even if it wouldn't otherwise. When those hormone levels return to normal, that hair falls out and returns to its normal cycle. Some people also experience major hair loss after surgery or illness. While this may not be completely normal hair loss, the fact that the body loses hair after experiencing stress is normal.

On the other hand, strange hair loss can also be a sign of something more serious. Hormone problems like overactive thyroid glands, or imbalanced androgen or estrogen levels can cause excessive hair loss. Some children lose hair because of fungal infections of the scalp. Hair loss can even occur as an early sign of diabetes or because of a reaction to a certain medicine.

Some hair loss can actually occur because of bad hair care. Wearing hair in really tight hair styles (tight braids, cornrows) or using lots of chemicals (perms, hot oil treatments) can cause hair loss that can actually become permanent if it persists. Hair follicles can actually scar and stop growing hair there at all. (Just another reason to be kind to your hair.)

Male- and Female-Pattern Baldness

What about normal, more permanent hair loss? Unlike some of the abnormal causes of baldness, permanent-pattern baldness is luck of the draw - if you get the genes for it, you're pretty much sunk (with a few possible exceptions that we'll get to in a minute). This kind of baldness usually starts in the front (receding hair line) or at the top of the head, either in a bald spot or as all-over thinning. Although female-pattern baldness is less common, it does occur, usually as a general thinning rather than as a receding hairline.

There are a couple of possible methods of treating baldness. For men, there is a presciption option called finasteride, or more commonly, Propecia. Most people try the non-prescription drug minoxidil, which is usually sold as rogaine 3 month supply. This is effective for about 80% of those with male-pattern baldness, but it takes at least 2-4 months to know for sure whether or not it will work. Typically, Rogaine is most effective for bald spots at the top/back of the head and is less effective for receding hair lines. Rogaine for women can also be effective for general thinning, but it may take even longer than Men's Rogaine to be able to tell whether it is going to help.

For the more normal kinds of hair loss, your only worry is that you'll have to keep it all off the bathroom floor. If you have abnormal hair loss, it's probably a good idea to check with your doctor to make sure it isn't hair loss fraught with portent. If it's permanent-pattern baldness, good luck. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones who doesn't care or for whom Rogaine works.
About the Author:

Megan works in the marketing division of Overstock Drugstore. They are easy to get hold of wherever you live and are present in most styles of cooking. Everybody can learn how to cook eggs using a few elementary methods. Knowing how to cook basic egg recipes like omelettes, scrambled eggs, and boiled eggs gives you an opportunity to modify them into thousands of easy, fast nutritious meals.

Here's how to make classic egg recipes:-

1. Boiled Eggs
Hard or soft boiled eggs are nutritious and can make a fast and simple meal. For most people, 'dippy'' eggs with 'soldiers' is the supreme comfort food.
To soft boil and egg for toast soldiers, first remove your eggs from the fridge and allow them to sit for a few minutes to bring them up to room temperature. Heat some water in a pan and, when it is just boiling, use a spoon to drop the eggs into the pan cautiously. Boil gently for precisely one minute then remove from the heat, put a lid on the pan and let it stand for 6-7 minutes. Not everyone likes their eggs cooked the same, so try adjusting the time until you get it just how you like it.
In the case of hard boiled eggs, simmer the eggs in the pan, on the heat, for approximately 7 minutes and then immediately take from the water and immerse in cold water for a short time. Leave eggs to cool in a bowl of ice cold water.
Hard boiled eggs are fantastic for taking on picnics or for mashing with mayonnaise to make egg sandwiches.

2. Making an Omelette
An omelette is really easy to make and is wonderful served with a salad or fries.
Beat two eggs in a bowl and season with salt and pepper. Add a teaspoon of milk or water. In an omelette pan (small frying pan), melt a knob of margarine or butter and let it coat the base of the pan. Pour the eggs into the pan and move them around so that they cover the base of the pan. Use a spatula to keep bringing in cooked bits from the side to let less cooked eggs run into gaps and cook. As soon as you have a soft but firm evenly cooked omelette you may also add grated cheese or cooked mushrooms to the center and, using a spatula, fold the omelette over the filling to make a crescent shape.

3. Scrambled Eggs
Scrambled eggs on toast is delicious and is a good standby when you're in a rush or are too tired to cook much. If you have got a microwave, then these are really easy – simply beat 2-3 eggs together, season, add a tiny dash of milk and cook on high. Stir with a fork every ten seconds and stop cooking when they are at the perfect consistency for you.
You can also scrambled eggs in a pan – Heat a knob of butter in a frying pan, beat the eggs in a bowl or jug, season and add a dash of milk. Once the butter is melted, pour the eggs into the pan and stir constantly with a wooden spoon. Cook until the egg mixture only has a bit of liquid left. Stir in a little butter and add cream if you want – delicious.
For a special breakfast, chop up smoked salmon and mix into the scrambled egg.

4. Poaching Eggs
To poach eggs the easy way, you can buy a specific poaching pan which has circular compartments into which you crack your eggs and then they cook over the pan which is filled with boiling water.
To poach eggs without a poacher, pour boiling water into a frying pan until it is about 2 ½ cm deep, place the pan on the cooker and, when the water is bubbling lightly (little bubbles under the surface), break an egg into the water. Simmer for 1 minute and then withdraw from the heat. Leave for 10 minutes and then remove with a slotted spoon and drain. Serve on toast or with bacon, sausage and baked beans.

These are the four classic, fastest and most dependable ways to cook eggs but you can also fry an egg in oil. Simply heat oil in a frying pan, crack an egg gently into the pan (gently, so you don't break the yolk) and fry until done. Although you may favour frying eggs, remember that poaching is much healthier than frying because it uses water instead of oil.
About the Author:

Mr Wakefield is an ethusiastic amateur chef and web designer who provides content for 'The Recipe Collection' web site.
